Guadelopue Blog Post #3

In the story of Tetiyette and the Devil is a story that takes places in Guadeloupe. This is known because in the story, when Tetiyette was being eaten, she was saying Bel-air drum which is a Guadeloupe fertility tradition. This is brought because I believe the Devil represents a spouse abusing their partner sexually. The author is trying to speak out to the reader telling the that it is hard to be in a relationship that is abusive. Tetiyette's parents didn't care about her at the end when she was getting eaten, and to me, that seems to show people who don't help sexual assault victims because they said they already warned them. Also the author shows how a predator can set a trap to a victim. This was shown in the story when Tetiyette fell for the devils trap falling for him because of his handsome good looks and not giving anyone else a chance. I think the main message the author is trying to push is that abusive people will pray on your weakness just like a devil in order to get their way. Overall, this short story outlines the message the author is trying to convey very will.
